All of us at the BJGA are volunteers. We are always on the look-out for new volunteers for both golf and non-golf functions.  both on and off the course, so that the organization can continue to operate smoothly. Parents are encouraged (please, we do not want to change this to 'required') to volunteer for on-course roles such as marshals, rules officials, starters and card collectors. We are also interested in volunteers to write press releases, conduct web site updating, scoring and media relations. Previous golfing experience is not required to be a volunteer! If you wish to be considered as a Starter or a Marshal for the BJGA, please either include your details in the 'comments' section of the tournament sign-up or email Mary Leseur at This email address is being protected from spambots. One factor that has discouraged many parents from volunteering has been a lack of a clear description of the role of a marshal. A Marshal at a BJGA event is expected to:

(i) ensure that all groups are maintaining the pace of play (we aim for 3 ½ - 4 hour rounds); and
(ii) ensure the players are respecting the golf course and the rules of the host facility and behaving in a respectful manner.

A Marshal is not expected to know the answers to questions on the Rules of Golf and any such questions should be referred to the designated Rules Official or, for majors, the Tournament Director. If the Marshal cannot for any reason find a Rules Official or the Tournament Director, the Marshall shall advise the player concerned to proceed under Rule 3-3 and complete the hole with 2 balls. Alternatively, ask the professional at the course we are playing on that day. Any questions arising on the Rules of Golf and not determined onsite should be brought to the attention of the BJGA as soon as possible by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots.
